Michael Pottinger is the founder of Smooth Salsa and has been teaching people how to dance Salsa in the Midlands since 1997 with his dance partner Maxine Stephens. Since the first day he was introduced to this captivating dance he was mesmerized.

Smooth Salsa consists of a number of friendly Instructors who can offer a wide variety of salsa tuition such as New York Style Salsa On 1, New York Style Salsa On2 and the fun and enjoyable Cuban Salsa Rueda De Casino We also have Instructors who are also qualified to teach Ballroom and Latin.

United Kingdom Alliance Accredited Teachers (UKA)

Michael Pottinger and Michelle Brown are fully qualified UKA accredited Professional Dance Teachers. Michael is qualified with UKA at Licentiate level in the Club Dance Salsa Division and Michelle Brown is qualified at Licentiate level in the Ballroom and Latin Branch. Both Michael and Michelle teach all levels of dancers from beginners right through to experienced dancers and competitors, with their vast knowledge and experience they focus on the technique required within each dance.

Smooth Salsa can now offer teacher training, so you too could be an accredited Dance teacher with UKA.

Michael and Maxine have had the privilege of teaching salsa at some of the UK's biggest annual salsa events such as :-

  • The International event known as The Brit Salsafest at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool in 2006 and 2007.

  • The Mambo City 5 Star Heathrow Congress consecutively in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011.

  • Mambo City @ Hayling Island, Salsa Splash 2010

  • The Congress voted Number 1 in the Uk, The Great British Salsa Experience consecutively in 2008, 2009, 2010.

  • The Dusseldorf Annual Congress in 2007.

Michael and Maxine are also regularly invited to do guest teaching spots at various clubs around the UK.
