Jim Close is the new kid on the block, the latest addition to the Smooth Salsa Team. Jim joined us April 2nd 2011 after 2 previous DJ guest spots at the February 2011 and March 2011 Smooth Salsa events.

Jim is a very humble guy and believe it or not, actually did his first DJ slot on Saturday 5th February 2011 at The Smooth Salsa Party! This is hard to believe when you hear him play but it is true. After the Smooth Salsa party in January Jim and I (Michael) had a very long conversation online about the party and the music played with the understanding it is hard to please everyone's music taste at an event.

In conversation, Jim suggested a few tracks which he would have liked to have heard during the night, many of which were classics. After a long conversation it was evident Jim had a natural ear for music, especially for those who dance New York style salsa. This doesn't mean Jim isn't versatile, he can mix it up even though he has his own personal preference.

After our conversation I asked if he'd ever contemplated playing music . Jim stated he had never considered it before even though he has a deep passion for music. I then made a suggestion, asking him to bring some music to the next party and help out during my DJ set.

On the night, I gave Jim a basic run down of the equipment and assisted him for 10 minutes. He played and the rest was history. His set was off the hook, as expected. Since then Jim has continued his trend complimenting myself and DJ Rogers' style of music.
